describes the process when confined entirely to the astral levels. on the egoic plane this involves inspiration. ponder on this explanation for it explains much. mediumship is dangerous. why is this so? because the mental body is not involved and so the soul is not in control. the medium is an unconscious instrument, he is not himself the controlling factor; he is controlled. frequently also the discarnate entities who employ this method of communication, utilizing the brain or voice apparatus of the medium, are not highly evolved, and are quite incapable of employing mental plane methods. some people combine the method of inspiration and of receiving instruction along various lines and, when this is the case, great accuracy of transmission is found. occasionally again, as in the case of

, however, that a rapport has been formed with the attacking entity in a previous incarnation, and therefore it holds, as it were, the key to the postern. such a problem is a very difficult one, and external assistance is needed for its solution. the difficulty is increased by the fact that the victim is often disinclined to allow the break to be made, being bound to the attacking entity, whether discarnate or incarnate, by bonds of fascination, or even genuine affection. a case with which i was acquainted throws so much light on various aspects of psychic interference by incarnate souls operating out of their bodies that it is of value to quote it at length. in the summer of 1926 i saw in the papers a short paragraph describing the death of a certain man and his wife, which took place wit

m. i was told that it had previously been the bed room of the last owner of the house, who had been addicted to drink and had gone bankrupt. it is a curious fact that drunkards and drug addicts make very evil psychic atmospheres, whereas a person who is a common criminal, however bad, is not nearly so noxious and his atmosphere fades rapidly. in these two cases there was no question of an entity, discarnate or incarnate, being concerned in the matter; there was merely an unpleasant mental atmosphere generated by some powerful and painful emotion that had been experienced over a considerable period at that spot. such a concentration, if very strong, will linger almost indefinitely. the structures that saw the concentration may have been pulled down and new ones built, nevertheless the force

if the script emanates from an extraneous intelligence, its psychometric reading should result in the presentation of a character different from the medium s. there is no way of telling, however, to what extent the medium s influence may blend with the script and garble psychometric impressions. the difficulties, therefore, are very great if we set out to prove that a certain message comes from a discarnate mind. it encyclopedia of occultism& parapsychology. 5th ed. automatic writing 129 should not only be clear that the contents of the message were unknown to the medium, but also that they were unascertainable by normal means. and as we do not know the powers of the subconscious to acquire information, those instances in which the information may have been acquired from books should only

knowledge contained in a living mind. if every exaggerated scruple is to be satisfied we will have to narrow down considerably the circle of conclusive messages. the revelation of the contents of posthumous sealed letters, of the whereabouts of intentionally hidden objects, or the sudden announcement of death unknown to the sitters may offer a prima facie case that the communications come from a discarnate mind. a good case of the latter kind was quoted by alexander n. aksakof. a man named duvanel died by his own hand on january 15, 1887, in a swiss village where he lived alone. five hours after his death an automatic message, announcing the decease, was written at wilna by a miss stramm, whom duvanel wished to marry, but who could have received no news of his tragic end. nevertheless the

ques vallee and john keel had both pointed out the connection with mythic names and legends, and i thought lanulus might be a play on land you lost or land you lust a reference to atlantis lore, or legendary shadow lands such as f rie or magonia. but such answers seemed, like the masonic third degree, somehow incomplete. 22 allen h. greenfield i was aware, also, that similar names had shown up as discarnate beings and controls in 19th and early 20th century trance mediumship, ufo contactee trance channeling and, later, the trance channeling so trendy since the seth material of jane roberts in the 1970s. as a former elected member of the british society for psychical research, i saw a connectedness but could not make out the actual connection. when i started working with the 1974 cipher sol

essages, and why? to answer this, one must apply the cipher knowledge to the world of deep occultism, of which ufos are but a surface manifestation. the answers do not come from anything as simple as mental aberrations and hoaxes on the one hand, nor interstellar visitors and vast government conspiracies on the other. as historian paul johnson has shown, the theosophical mahatmas were neither the discarnate semi-deities of the believers nor madame blavatsky s fraudulent deceptions of the skeptics. rather, they were real people adepts or initiates of the deep wisdom perhaps, but people nonetheless with radical political and spiritual agendas that made pseudonyms a necessity. the names such mahatmas and chiefs took were, in very truth, noms de guerre: the kind of names underground members ad

name with the same cipher value as ramon natalli, one of the original inner circle of contactee mark probert, and one of the first sources of ufo wisdom. the inner circle, which was promoted by meade layne and which was a key player in the crossover from occultism to contacteeism, itself has an odd secret or two hidden in its cipher value. there were 16 members of the inner circle, all said to be discarnate human beings in touch with aliens. the words inner and circle each has a cipher value of 16 the number of members of the inner circle, or that together inner circle has a value of 176, the same as instruction or initiation, the 36 allen h. greenfield precise function of the inner circle. deciphered, the name describes the inner circle itself as an instructional, initiatory body of 16 me

n macrocosm and microcosm which is the precise role of the medium and contactee as well. i have mentioned the seth material as indicating a continuity from the mediumship and ufo contacteeism of the past 100+ years to the so-called new age trance channeling phenomenon. to be sure, a parallel exists with the holy books and the patience worth material channeled by mrs. curran from 1916. the alleged discarnate 17th century english girl who came through in correct period dialect shows the almost expected qabalistic qualities. patience worth= 201= intelligence and ail must be done well. actually, the lightlines group in kentucky, source of the ra material, is the crossover point from ufology to new age religion. jane roberts work the seth material is of special interest, as it introduced the ne

obiography, but is still quite convinced 20 or so years later when he notes, in magick without tears: they can induce a girl to embroider a tapestry, or initiate a political movement to culminate in a world-war; all in pursuit of some plan wholly beyond the purview or the comprehension of the deepest and subtlest thinkers..but are they men, in the usual sense of the word? they may be incarnate or discarnate: it is a matter of their convenience. we should take note of paul johnson s recent trailblazing study of the theosophical masters. the essence may be boiled down to this: secret chiefs or hidden masters may have good reason to mythologize themselves, and encourage those in direct contact with them to follow suit on the border where magical philosophy meets with its political implication

MEANING OF MASONRY

ogies the tradition is universal of a" golden age" an age of comparative innocence, wisdom and spirituality, in which racial unity and individual happiness and enlightenment prevailed; in which there was that open vision for want of which a people perisheth, but in virtue of which men were once in conscious conversation with the unseen world and were shepherded, taught and guided by the" gods" or discarnate superintendents of the infant race, who imparted to them the sure and indefeasible principles upon which their spiritual welfare and evolution depended. the tradition is also universal of the collective soul of the human race having sustained a" fall" a moral declension from its true path of life and evolution, which has severed it almost entirely from its creative source, and which, as
